TORONTO – May 13, 2019 – Horizons ETFs Management (Canada) Inc. (“Horizons ETFs”) has added Columbia Care Inc. (“Columbia Care”) to the portfolio of the Horizons US Marijuana Index ETF (“HMUS”), following the addition of Columbia Care to the US Marijuana Companies Index, the underlying index of HMUS.
HMUS is the first index ETF in the world to provide direct exposure to U.S. Marijuana-sector companies and is the largest U.S.-focused Marijuana ETF by assets under management.
HMUS seeks to replicate, to the extent possible, the performance of the US Marijuana Companies Index (the “Underlying Index”), net of expenses. The Underlying Index is designed to provide exposure to the performance of a basket of North American publicly-listed life sciences companies having significant business activities in, or significant exposure to, the United States Marijuana or Hemp industries.
One of the innovative features of the Underlying Index, is that it has a “Fast Entry” rule, which allows the index, and by extension the ETF, to add new stocks into the portfolio shortly after they become publicly available, assuming they qualify for index inclusion.
Columbia Care was the largest public market debut ever on the NEO Stock Exchange, and currently has a market cap of approximately $2 billion. With this market capitalization, it is already eligible to have the maximum weighting of 10% in HMUS’ portfolio. The portfolio of HMUS has been rebalanced to reflect this change.
Rebalancing of the US Marijuana Companies Index occurs each calendar quarter. At those points, all stocks eligible for inclusion are generally re-weighted by their respective market capitalization.
